About Us

This is where I'm supposed to talk about why you want to do business with us.

Really.

Everyone does basically the same stuff. We all use the same tools, use (mostly) the same vendors, and hire people who can work on your equipment and on the stuff we sell.

What makes us different?

We listen and we have standards.

No, not standards like "She's from the wrong side of the tracks" or "He likes country music, and we don't".

The listening part is easy to explain. You hire us to help you get to where you want to be as a business owner. You tell us what you're trying to accomplish, and we help you get there.

Standards allow us to keep your environment straightforward and easy to fix.

If you're getting what you need to be successful, and we're keeping things running and allowing your employees to be productive and efficient, we're both going to be happy.

We've got years of experience with lots of stuff, but it doesn't do you a bit of good if you don't want or need it.

How We Got Started

I landed my first IT job in 1994 working for, what was at the time, the largest privately owned department store in Michigan. I learned a ton while I was there but decided I wanted to move back to Traverse City where I went to junior high and high school. After finding a position in TC I lasted about six years before deciding to go work for a large Cisco reseller in Grand Rapids. I had so many people follow me to the new company that I decided to quit and hang my own shingle after only 4 months. It helped that I couldn't sell my house and missed most of my daughter's fifth grade basketball season. Wyant Computer Services, now Wyant Technologies, was officially started on January 1, 2003. My goal has always been to provide the best IT service in Northern Michigan. We're here to support you with what you need to make your business grow.

Culture starts at the top.  As owner/leadership I have had to build the culture I want.  I hire people that I think will fit and remove people that don't end up fitting or try to change the culture in ways that are damaging to the company.  Couple that with Doug's post on transparency and you're... Badly but we've been working on fixing that.  I never understood marketing and didn't put much weight into it but now I understand my company pretty much needs to be a marketing company that happens to sell IT services instead of an IT services company that does marketing. I think "Run questions and ideas past other business owners" should be much higher.  If I had known that when I started 15 years ago... (more) I think "Run questions and ideas past other business owners" should be much higher.  If I had known that when I started 15 years ago...

$25 gift card for a referral, $100 gift card if the referral becomes a client.  If your clients are telling you how happy they are with your service make sure you ask them if they know anyone that could also utilize your services. I think this depends on how you define rock stars.  I've got rock stars that are great team players and I've had rock stars that weren't.  If you've got the right people in the right seats on the bus you can do anything you want.  Fifteen years ago I worked for a company that was 24 or so people... Not finding the right people, not understanding their numbers, not understanding or knowing who their target market is, not charging the right amount, not seeking out those that can and will help them, and spending the entire office budget on donuts. The weekend because I'm the only one working.  I'm currently training my team so they can operate without me so this won't be an issue soon enough.
