The first Sunday in December is the yearly Victorian Stroll in Troy, NY. Organized mostly by the Chamber of Commerce, the Stroll increases in popularity each year, now reaching more than 20,000 visitors, many from outside the town. The Stroll offers an opportunity for varied activities such as...

The first Sunday in December is the yearly Victorian Stroll in Troy, NY. Organized mostly by the Chamber of Commerce, the Stroll increases in popularity each year, now reaching more than 20,000 visitors, many from outside the town. The Stroll offers an opportunity for varied activities such as music, performances, and food for adults and children. While new visitors to Troy stop by the gallery I own, they are primarily interested in viewing the works rather than acquiring them. The Stroll increases traffic, but food establishments appear to be the most successful in sales rather than the retail operations. Nonetheless, it is a very pleasant way of promoting what Troy offers.
Instagram is growing as the go-to social media for individual artists and others in art related enterprises. I'm not aware how popular is Twitter.

An essential factor in gaining a good reputation and visibility as a gallery is to exhibit strong artists. Good art is appreciated, and the word gets out.

Other clients are always the greatest resource. I find social media and email blasts very effective when used appropriately.

Often, conceptual art lends itself more to a museum or larger exhibition space than to a residence or office. If clients are looking for art to have at home or work, they seem to prefer other styles of work that are more readily accessible to a general public. Conceptual art is usually better...
