How We Got Started

21stcen Solutions began as 21st Century Designs in 1996. At that time we were only desiging web sites. We did that for several years, finally expanding to marketing products and services on line in 2005. We stopped doing web design for a while, but a number of small businesses requested our services designing their sites, so we are open for business again!

I solved that problem by requiring clients to sign a contract and I required a 50% deposit up front. The contract specified I retained all rights to the site until the bill was paid in full.  That way I always had something for my efforts and I never had a problem after that. As a designer, the property should be yours until the bill is paid. It should be within your rights to simply take down his sites until he pays his bill. From what you describe, it sounds like your client has at least attempted these same tactics with other designers in the past. This may sound a little drastic but have you considered turning him over to a collection agency or having your lawyer send him a letter? None of us likes to take this kind of action,  but sometimes it's the only remedy when a client refuses to fulfill his obligation. I strongly suggest you require future clients to sign a contract before you do any work for them. If they don't want to sign a contract, let them take their business elsewhere. No one needs that kind of hassle!

Customer referrals are the very best advertising for me. If I provide the kind of service people are looking for, and expect to receive, they are happy to provide referrals. Always strive to go above and beyond what your potential customer is looking for and you will never run out of customers! (more) Customer referrals are the very best advertising for me.
