Catherine Grassello is a photographer whose work is deeply rooted in her connection to the Northshore area of Massachusetts, particularly the Cape Ann towns. Raised in Melrose, MA, and now residing in Wakefield, MA, she has spent years capturing the essence of this region through her lens. Her photography spans a variety of subjects, from majestic birds in flight to expansive landscapes that evoke a sense of awe and wonder. She is expanding her portfolio and skill set by delving into portraiture, event and other genres of photography.
Grassello’s approach to photography is intentional; she aims to embed the feeling that inspired her to compose an image, hoping to evoke similar emotions in others. Whether it’s gratitude, laughter, or tears, her goal is to move people with her art. She finds inspiration everywhere, in the vastness of nature as well as in its vignettes. Her career as a journalist and television and print, greatly influences her photographic style and sensibilities.
A member of the Lynnfield Art Guild (currently serving as Co-President), Griffin Museum of Photography, Arts Collaborative of Wakefield and Greater Lynn Photographic Association (GLPA), her portfolio showcases a range of styles, including Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), which creates unique, abstract images. This technique reflects her creative eye and her ability to see beyond the realistic scenes, exploring the myriad possibilities of what an image could represent.
As she often shares, her photographic journey began as she entered college and continues to this day. Despite various detours, she always finds her way back to viewing the world through her camera’s lens, which she considers her truest perspective on life. With plans for new photography adventures already in her calendar, Grassello’s work promises to continue inspiring and moving people for years to come.
