I believe there are numerous reasons behind this. I can't list all of them on this post but a few off the top of my head. Our consumer culture, marketing, being able to finance everything for convenience, lacking a personal consistent process, subscriptions... I think it stems from the fact that we don't have the fundamentals of personal finances as a subject in schools that explains principles of money from an emotional, psychological and tactical vantage point.
