(more) Do not underestimate the power of bad marketing. Our Mantra is, " A Brand is the promise of an experience." What is the experience that a buyer will have when dealing with your company?  Everything you put out, form an email to a website needs to carry your branding message. It needs to look professional or it will let people know you are not professional. A poorly designed or written element will turn off prospective buyers. It is crucial you make an investment in your branding, and carry that through everything you do.  That branding dictates what your message is. It should be refined, clear, and needs to represent your company properly. When someone sees an item that you are using to market or promote yourself they need to get the same message and learn what to expect. If you are building a website yourself and the graphics are poor, the stock images are the same as your competitors, and the writing is not succinct you will lose the customer. Your website may not generate money for you, but it can stop you from generating money. No matter how you market your business, most people will visit your website to confirm they are dealing with a solid company. If it does not provide the right impression, you have successfully pushed them to your competitor, with a better impression. This is not just about the website, it is your social media pages, the posts on those pages, your ads, your business cards, everything that represents your company. You do not know how someone will find you, but you want to be sure your brand is properly represented everywhere. Now that the foundation for your brand is in place you can look at investing in a marketing campaign. For that, determine your target demographic. This will help to determine the best vehicle for marketing; email, PPC, print, snail mail, etc. Then use those vehicles to put out your message, refine that message, and repeat. Advertising is not a once and you are done thing. You must keep coming back at your target to remind them you are here to service them. A consistent, well-designed message that reflects your brand will bring success if done right.

(more) What works best for your business is going to vary based on your industry, target market, etc. There is no one answer that works for everyone in advertising. Everyone can benefit from word of mouth, which is of course universal. However, what form of advertising your business should do to attract clients depends on your target market. Is it B2B, B2C, or both? Are you local, regional, or national?  Advertising on Facebook and other social media channels is great if you use them properly. There are other avenues as well; Google AdWords, display ad, retargeting ads, SEO, and more. You can try to do it yourself, but understanding keywords, both positive and negative, and targeting your customers or potential customers properly requires experience and knowledge. Beyond that, there is email marketing, direct mail, print, TV, Radio, and more, and choosing what will work best for your business is not a do-it-yourself kind of task. You hire an electrician to do that work, an IT pro for that, or an auto mechanic for your car; you need an advertising pro to help you with your business. Agencies exist for a reason. We have watched customers use Word, Canva, and other non-professional means of creating ads and shooting themselves in the foot, investing good money on a campaign that just cannot work.  Having Photoshop on your computer does not make you a graphic designer. I am good at photoshop, but my graphic designers are great in creating visuals that I cannot compete with, that is why I hire them.  I would not then ask them to create and manage a campaign, they just do not know the nuance of doing it well, we have a variety of people that work for us that are experts in different areas, together we create and manage the entire campaign. The number of times I have heard from clients "I did  (Insert Channel) ads before and they did not work for me." is overwhelming.  Usually, they did it or had their daughter, cousin, or some college kid set it up for them. That is not running ads, that is throwing away your money. Just because you can do something does not mean you should, it does not mean it will be done properly, just cheaply. This holds true whether it is your advertising, logo design, website, etc.  Use a firm that has the knowledge and skills to properly promote your business.

But you need to consider your branding in general to get the messaging right.  So please understand this post is meant to be helpful and if no one tells you these things you will not know what the issues are. In your case, I am afraid it is more than the "Jack of all trades" issue. In viewing your website you seem to take nice photos, but the site looks unprofessional. I am not clear if you are a photographer or someone that produces mugs shirts and mousepads. Your message is not clear. The site is called Winters Photos, so I would expect to find a photographer. The website does not look professional, it appears to be built in one of those builders like a free google site. I firmly believe that a brand is the promise of an experience. In visiting the site, the experience is such that I would not hire you. Your website is a reflection of you and your business, is that really the image you want to portray? I would make an investment in that, and some Search Engine Optimization to drive traffic to it. Your website is the hub of any marketing effort you make. From your business cards to postcards everyone will likely end up on your site. Create a site that showcases your photography, if that is what you are selling. Then have a page for the mugs and shirts as ways to use the photos. If you are selling the mugs and shirts, feature that on the site, with a gallery of the products with good product photos. Right now it looks like you have not figured it out. You need to establish a brand and carry it consistently through everything. Some other things that caught my eye were: Your URL  is winterphoto2006.com, I would try to eliminate the year, it makes the business look dated for the get-go. Your Facebook page is littlefingersdayhome you need to pick a brand and remain consistent. The menu is had to read, there is a random little picture where I can only assume a logo should go. There is more, but I am starting to feel like this is going to be seen as a mean post. That is not my intent. You are asking for help in your messaging so I am trying to provide an impartial critique. I sincerely hope that you find this helpful.

Think of  "I'm just looking." as I'm looking to find the right person or company to make the purchase from. With over 30 years in sales and marketing, I found there to be one truth, people buy from someone they like and trust. They do not know the company they are buying from (unless it is a big corporation like BMW), they know the salesperson they are dealing with. If they like you and trust you then they can feel comfortable making the purchase. If you have the opportunity to meet them in the home or office, be observant. If you see sports memorabilia, discuss that, if it is photos of their kids ask about them. Creating a personal relationship goes a long way toward building that trust. Establishing common ground makes you relatable, makes you feel like a friend.

(more) We have worked with a number of local businesses. In every case, getting your name out there, making sure every customer is treated well and is happy will build your reputation and word of mouth (even this is marketing).  But getting people into the store in the first place can be a challenge. You are building a brand. A brand is a promise of an experience. What do people think of your business, what experience will they have when they walk through the door? A good marketing agency will help you define your brand. This branding carries through to the exterior of the store, is it attractive, welcoming, is the signage good and visible? Is the interior well decorated and easy to find products? Is your staff attentive and welcoming every client as they walk in the door?  These are the things you can control. In the technological world, the Internet is where most people get their information. Here are a few things you can do that factors apply to everyone: 1) Have a well-built website that is professionally designed to allow for use on mobile devices. Just because a site looks good, does not mean people can find it.  A WIX or SquareSpace site is not going to serve you well. 2) Local SEO (Search Engine Optimization) of your website and building backlinks for the site so that when someone searches for the products or services that you offer, you are found. 3) If the budget allows a Pay-Per Click campaign that is locally targeted so that when people search for you absolutely show up in results. This is not "boosting" a post, it is an organized, targeted ad campaign. 4) Commercials of Cable are fairly reasonable, we can target a town to start with, and as you grow we can expand the coverage. Just keep in mind, avoiding doing marketing is the reason many businesses fail. It is like you are throwing a party and do everything to make the house just right, but the night of the party, no one shows up.  This was because you did not send out invitations. Advertising is the invitation to your party.  Make the investment with a firm that has the experience and it can pay off significantly.

(more) We are a full-service advertising and marketing agency.  We work with many small businesses to help them find customers. It is not clear the kind of training and consulting you do, so I will speak generally.  It is our belief that your website is the foundation of any marketing or advertising or marketing you do, people will likely end up checking you out there. Therefore, your site cannot be an afterthought or something you just threw together on Wix.  It needs to be well designed, easy to navigate, and it needs to tell your story. It needs to convey who you are, what you do and why people should do it with you. Once your site is in place, it needs to be found by people that need your services. Just because you have a website does not mean people will flock there. That means making Google happy so that when someone searches in your geographical target market, your site comes up on the first page and on the map.  This is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and will bring potential clients to your site. Again this is where the design of that site is important. Many times a site ranks with Google, but if the visitor cannot get to the information they want quickly and easily, they will bounce, or leave the site.   You can also work with a firm that can offer Pay-Per-Click advertising on Facebook, Google or LinkedIn. Which platform is best will depend on your target market. This can get expensive, and you should be prepared to budget at least $1,000 a month on any one of these platforms to make it economical to have an expert create, test and manage the campaign. A less expensive option is to create a following on social media on your own. Posting quick homemade videos that are well written can gain you a good deal of traction. For some industries, we have found that the old methods of using direct mail and print ads can be helpful too. I would be happy to speak with you about your needs, just give me a call at 973-653-5144 x 201.

(more) I posted this in response to another question and thought it applied here as well. Marketing is an art. It is a balance between science and creativity.  There are too many people that think that there is one way to do it. Working with a company that understands the new school and old school methods of promoting a business. I believe a brand is the promise of an experience. You need to find a firm that can help you develop a strong brand identity and help you maintain that.  I have seen good business people fail because they do not understand marketing. They may have the best product or service but they adopt a logo they found in a Google search, create a brochure in Publisher, get a business card from a design on VistaPrint. Then they wonder why they struggle.  If what you present to the world is just "good enough" you will find people will not think it is good at all. When you hand a business card to someone it should represent you and your brand, it should make a positive impression. The same goes for your website, packaging, the cleanliness of your place of business.  Everything makes for that experience. Investing in your marketing is the ONLY way your business can succeed. Make that investment wisely based on the experience of the team, not based on price. It may hurt a bit now, but investing the money with a team that does not have the experience to save a few dollars; it will hurt more later when you get no results and have to start over.  The best answer to all of your question is to find a team that has the experience, real experience, and explain to them what you can afford (not what you want to spend), let them work with you to determine the best way to get some revenue flowing so that you can make a further investment in marketing. As Henry Ford said, “A man who stops advertising to save money is like a man who stops a clock to save time.” Message me if you want to discuss this further.
