Metro Learning Solutions is a cognitive development business, not a tutoring business. Instead of focusing on tutoring, which reteaches information not learned, our focus is on determining WHY an individual is having difficulty learning the material at the same rate as their peers (and one in five students don't). Because there are many great tutoring businesses to choose from, and since there are instances where tutoring is exactly what someone needs, academic learning is not our focus. We determine, through an initial assessment, what someone's strengths and weaknesses are in the skills the brain uses to learn: memory, visual processing, processing speed, auditory processing, problem solving, etc. Weak areas are then targeted and strengthened, enabling the individual to learn, remember, and process information (instruction) more efficiently. We get great results in developing the skills necessary for reading (our average is 3.6 years cognition gained) in six months. The reason we are able to get such a high result is because we are not solely focused on reading instruction. Instead, we develop the cognitive skills that are required to be a successful reader while reintroducing reading basics at the same time. Our math results are a bit more ambiguous. This is because we don't "teach" math in isolation; rather the results are due to the restorative and developmental nature of our intervention. Our focus on developing memory, processing and problem solving is reflected in our math program scores: on average, in about a six month period, our clients gained 3.4 years cognition as measured in quantitative concepts, analysis-syntheses, math fluency, and decision speed. I am always happy to discuss this in more detail or to answer any other questions you may have. I am also able to provide our research that supports all the studies we have done in the area of cognition and how it affects learning ability.
