It’s built on the fact that kids will learn if they have fun, are challenged, and can drive their own hands-on projects. Consider the difference between reading about weight to strength ratios in a classroom versus competing in a weight-bearing bridge building contest spanning the Teknasium.
With more than 350+ brilliantly stimulating projects and the list is growing constantly across nine different STEM disciplines. The kids get to choose their own projects, pick their own partners, and drive their own performance criteria. They are challenged, they discover, they RETAIN knowledge. And MOST importantly, they learn how rewarding a STEM career could be.
The CORE™ Business model also encourages at each location the pursuit of private/public partnerships with local school districts, professional development and workforce retraining certifications, and through our non-profit provides the opportunity for kids everywhere.

In 2014 Don Lemon, the CORE Founder, met 11 year old Quynh Tram in Vietnam — and learned she still can’t go school. He was told: “The child is not normal. . . . Cannot keep up with her peers. We are sending her home,” the principals have said, over and over again. And they watched her cringe and cower when they took her to a classroom for testing. But we know she can learn . . . she can do math on an iPad, read menus at the restaurant . . . understands and learns English . . . and play video games with proficiency.
Returning to the United States, Don realized, that like Tram, many of us learn best by doing . . . hands-on, making something. And the existing 19th century based education systems around the world are struggling to keep students engaged in this technology-driven 21st century. And on top of that, kids are only in school 20% of their waking hours. Another solution was needed.
And so the CORE™ was born.
