Servpro of Paramus/Northeast Bergen County is 24/7 Emergency restoration company. We work with ALL insurance companies helping home and business owners (renters too) with water or fire emergencies. We also do mold mitigation as well as Trauma/Bio-Hazard clean-ups. We work with multiple Fire and Police Departments in Bergen County. We travel too, our work is not limited at all to the Bergen County area. Our office also has a sister company called All Stages Asbestos Abatement. Sometimes you're fortunate enough to meet one on your travels through life and business. Sometimes you know someone who has turned their business around and you ask how and they "I met this guy or girl and she took me under their wing." That way, you see the proof, you have a reference. No matter what though, a true mentor should be someone you feel close enough to that you can take constructive criticism from. Also you can feel close enough to bounce ideas off of them, even what you may feel is a stupid idea. Be close enough to laugh at it. And RESPECT. You can't take advise and teachings from someone you don't fully respect. And lastly, if you want a mentor be open. We seek help because we think we can do better, move to another level, kick it up a notch. I'm not a fan of mentors who solicit you (no offense, just my opinion). You know it when you got it, sometimes it's right under our nose and it takes a while to realize this nice, smart person who is always there to help you is not just a friend, but a mentor.

I've always found golf outings to be a fantastic way of networking. People are generally in great moods at outings. You eat, relax, smoke a couple of cigars and play golf. I've found 4 or 5 hours of bonding on the golf course has forged a number of strong relationships. You genuinely get to know the person and it's not just business in the end, but friendship as well. I've also been at cigar functions and cigar cruises where the atmosphere is fun and relaxing and everyone lowers their guard a little bit and the conversations are more honest. I've also been to business card exchanges and cocktail parties but I had to go to a few outings for work 5 years ago, I hadn't played golf in 15 years. Now I'm involved in 12-15 outings a year.
Be honest and reliable. Make your "word" stand up and mean something. Treat people in business the way you want to be treated. I still believe in honoring a hand shake.
