I am a Vermont watercolor artist. I have always been drawn to nature, I am always taking in my surroundings, taking the time to notice the small things. Birch trees have been one of my main focuses for the past few years. They bring a sense of tranquility and fragility to a landscape. They sit quietly, giving a hint of color and their personality as their bark curls away. I thought I might get bored eventually, painting the same tree time after time might become a tedious exercise. It hasn't. Every time I go out to investigate a landscape I always search for the unique, the imperfect, the undesirable even. A broken branch, a torn leaf, a scarred tree, these are the things I look for. It’s the imperfect that makes nature so beautiful. This is what captures my attention, what inspires me the most.
