Since our work load has been slow since this time last year, it will be difficult to give an hourly employee a $4 to $5 an hour raise. We have been fortunate that we have not had to lay off any workers, at this time. Most of our workers start off at least $10 per hour, not the minimum wage. If the minimum wage goes to $15 per hour we will have to reduce staff to compensate for this increase. This will cost some individuals their job. We are not like a hamburger restaurant where all we have to do is raise the price of the burger to compensate. We are under contract to complete work for various clients at a set dollar amount. We cannot raise the labor costs to compensate for this. We do not intend to lose money on a project if possible. So, again this will cost some people their jobs. This could be a snow ball affect. We have some employees that have started at $10 - $12 an hour that have worked up to $15 per hour. If you raise a $10 an hour worker to $15 per hour is the $15 dollar an hour worker want to be increased the same amount? He will think he is worth more than the employee that starts at what he works up to. I agree the current minimum wage is to low, that is why we do not start any employee below $10 per hour.
