This is a private tour (only your group) with a carefully planned out trail reflecting early Colonial America and Williamsburg as it was in the 1770s. Our tour includes the Williamsburg Inn, the Duke of Gloucester Street, the Capitol Building, the Governor's Palace, Palace Green, Bruton Parish Church, Merchant's Square, around William and Mary's Sir Christopher Wren building (the "College").

The Williamsburg Inn - this iconic hotel built in 1937 was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 and is part of the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It reflects the committment of John D. Rockfeller, Jr.'s to represent the finest resort hotel in order to showcase Colonial Williamsburg. We'll stop here for a short lesson in history and plan our walk.

The Duke of Gloucester - take in the entirety of the Duke of Gloucester Street (affectionately known as DoG Street) and many of the historic businesses, taverns, homes and other 17th and 18th Century buildings.

The Capitol Building - as we stroll around Williamsburg's first Capitol building, a replica of the first Capitol built in 1705, that later burned down in 1747 and was rebuilt differently in 1753. This Capitol housed both Houses of the Virginia General Assembly, the House of Burgesses, the Council of the State, the Secretary's office and a Court for the gentry. This building is the third Capitol on the site and based on prints made on the Bodleian Plate discovered at Oxford University. It has lasted longer than the first Capitol Building of 1705 and the second Capitol Building of 1753.

Palace Green - the Palace Green, spanning over 900 feet, focuses our eyes and mind to the executive authority of government in the Colonial Williamsburg - the English monarchy and the royal governors who occupied the Governor's Palace.

Governor's Palace - the official residence of the seven royal governors who lived in the original palace along with Virginia's first two governors, Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferon, this reconstructed building was completed on the original site in the early 1930s and was built to impress. Bruton Parish Church - the roots trace back to both the Church of England and the colony at Jamestown in the 17th Century. The congregation was established in 1674 and the Church in Colonial Williamsburg was constructed between 1711-1715. It is one of the 89 original buildings in Colonial Williamsburg and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970. During the 20th Centurn, Rev. Dr. W.A.R. Goodwin, a former rector of the Church, started a movement to preserve and restore the birthplace of America. He is buried in the Church along with 28 other graves that were discovered in one of the early preservations of the original building.

Merchant's Square - with its beginnings dating back to 1927 as the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg was beginning, Merchant's Square is recognized as one of the earliest, planned shopping districts in America. It is located between Henry Street and Boundary Street and there are more than 40 shops and restaurants that add to your experience in Williamsburg.

Sir Christopher Wren building at the College of William and Mary - learn about the oldest academic building still in use in the United States and it's significant role throughout history. The College of William and Mary (est. 1693) is known as our alma mater to four United States Presidents and housed our Colonial government during the construction of the first Capitol (1699-1705) and during the construction of the second Capitol (1747-1753).
