About Us

Martin County Firearms Academy, led by a dedicated sole owner-operator with nine years of experience, specializes in empowering women and beginners with the skills to use a firearm for self-defense. We understand that women learn differently, and we tailor our instruction to meet their needs. We're flexible, accommodating any schedule and even traveling to a client's location for a safe, personalized training experience.

Your safety and that of your family is our utmost concern. Our 8-hour classes are thoughtfully structured to be completed in a single day, equipping you with the essential education and expertise needed to embark on your journey in handgun usage, whether for protection or enjoyment.

How We Got Started

In 2012, my fascination with guns began, culminating in my attainment of a concealed carry permit in 2014. In 2015, I took the initiative to establish Martin County Firearms Academy, driven by the belief that women should have a secure environment to learn the art of shooting. Of course, men are always warmly received as well. Navigating this predominantly male industry hasn't been without its challenges, but each time a woman expresses gratitude with words like 'thank you so much' or confesses that they were once apprehensive about guns, I'm reassured that I'm fulfilling my purpose.

Martin County Firearms Academy had to reduce the number of people from 12- 15 per class to no more than nine. My classes went from once per week to twice per week or more. We will continue doing what our student need while we meet the restrictions required by the State.  (more) Martin County Firearms Academy had to reduce the number of people from 12- 15 per class to no more than nine. In 2021 I'm going to be focused on adding more classes, Basic Pistol, Range Safety Officer, and In Home Protection. Along with Range Days where clients can come out for a day of safe, fun shooting for a flat fee. I have teamed up with another small business Hawkeye, who has been instrumental in helping to reach an area of the population that was untapped. I'm also joining up with Melanie & Co. who will be helping me with revamping my website and helping me with email and social media marketing. I think the first thing I learned from 2020 is that you can't do everything by yourself.  I so enjoy what I do and I'm so grateful to the many students who picked me to help them start on their journey as gun owners.

While I'm a sole proprietor, my services are offered mostly to groups of people (who don't necessarily know each other). So yes there is a worry, I keep hand cleaner available and ask my clients if they are sick to wait until they feel better before attending class. This is the best I can do... This looks great. I would love to connect with other business like mine to see how they are doing business and how the political climate in our country may be affecting them. Thank you for this platform. (more) This looks great. I'm still trying to figure it all out. I'm going to work with Hoot Suite the next few days to see it will be an asset to me. (more) I'm still trying to figure it all out. I'm going to work with Hoot Suite the next few days to see it will be an asset to me.

(more) Black, female, and let's just say retirement age, in the firearms business. I've had students come to my classes male and female. Black, White, and Brown many who were open and excited about having a female instructor and others that didn't think I had anything to teach them at least in the beginning and like all new business it took time to get the word out and for people to trust that I knew what I was doing. Word of mouth from former students has been my best advertising. People call me for many different reasons, some because the want to learn to defend themselves and some because they want to conceal carry. My best students are the ones who rarely or have never shot a gun before and have some fear of what will happen, because after the first shot and I see the smile on their face and the first question they ask is 'can I do it again' I know I have a new shooter in the making. Every one who wants to should have the opportunity to learn how to shoot and be able to protect themselves, their family, and beyond if the needs arises.  Everyone has the right to learn these skills in a friendly, safe, welcoming environment. That's my goal, along with teaching one million women how to shoot. Martin County Firearms Academy, LLC
