Practice Without Pressure
About Us
We help those wtih special needs and anxiety receive quality medical and dental care with the dignity and respect that they deserve
How We Got Started
Our founder's son has Downs Syndrome. He required many medical procedures as a child for which he was held down against his will, which caused extreme anxiety similar to PTSD. She developed an effective means of practicing procedures until they became more familiar and he was equipped with the skills to accomplish whatever was required of him, with little to no stress. We repeat this approach with our clients. Her approach is recognized by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as an award winning contribution to society.

"I love Jay! What an insightful, compassionate, and empowering individual. She watches, listens and assesses well, and seems to always be able to step back and give that unbiased, eye opening perspective on situations that we all wish for but only few have the ability to give. She has performed psychological assessments and counseling for several of my children, from elementary to college level. She was instrumental in improving their overall educational experiences and enrichment."

I would suggest she put her head together with a budding young (and inexpensive) social media student to promote some unique sales opportunities. Market to the couples that if they aren’t going “big” with their numbers they can still go Big with small details, special headpieces or jewelry pieces, things they will remember in their photos forever. Definitely must have an online presence. Make package suggestions with themes. Almost every young person can help get you there today! Partner with the winery industry, setting up display or sales at their events. Shift to some high end smaller products such as jewelry and shoes that are smaller in inventory but provide more revenue. Diversify- it’s how the business computer and bicycle industry survived the 80s. Even how medicine survived this year. Offer your services but in a varied platform.

I agree one hundred percent with the father-daughter advise. You deserve to stay at the job you value. And what someone else did, discussing your very private information, was wrotten, if not malicious. But you need to remind yourself it does not change anything. Chances are this “new information” will not change the way your other coworkers treat you. I believe 95% of us are more mature than to treat you with any appreciable bias. The coworker who “outed you” is probably the only one who views your sexual orientation in a negative light. They have nothing better to do with their time but stir up strife and somehow this makes them feel less ineffective about their own life.
I also agree that calling them out face to face is essential to putting the tension between you at rest. Without an accusing tone (this might be hard but take the position that you are likely more secure in who you are than they) let them know that their actions were hurtful, not as much for the content of the discussion as much as the fact that they felt this information was some weapon to yield to their advantage, or not considering what a violation of personal dignity it was to place you at the center of attention when you did not choose to be there.
After speaking with the individual, decide if a talk with HR is in order. Unfortunately policy seldom stops creeps from acting on their biases, but you behaving in a mature, calm manner shows your colleagues your character and speaks for itself. Take the high ground and continue to hold on to your good reputation which you have earned. Who knows, perhaps you will come out of this situation with an even better reputation than you went into it!
