How We Got Started

I have always lived plant medicine. I started studying herbalogy, I had a personal health challenge in 1985 which introduced me to reiki and energy medicine! I then studied homeopathy, reiki and flower remedies. I started studying essential oils in 1992 and had a great collection from all over the world. In 1994 when I moved to Santa Barbara, I was introduced to Young Living essential oil's . The purity and frequency of those oil's blew my mind so I went immediately to massage school so I could start putting them on people . It was like meeting my perfect modality: a combination of the properties of the herbs and the energy and frequency the oils bring .

Because one of my services is massage therapy with essential oils, this question does not apply! As a teacher and trainer, I have not experienced any gender bias. Good thing, because I’m the kind of gal who would charge through closed doors like a bull!❤️ (more) Because one of my services is massage therapy with essential oils, this question does not apply! I give  a 10% discount for next appointment  in thanks for the referral.  I send out a newsletter to my existing clients from time to time, as well as seasonal discounts.  Teaching classes on essential oils also results in clients, as does my radio spots on Wdst with doug Grunther. I used to do a print ad in the Chronogram, but don’t anymore. Often my gift certificate donation to organizations I support for their fund raising raffles results in loyal clients! Some of my massage clients purchase deeply discounted gift certificate packages to give out as gifts,  which has resulted in new loyal clients! I attend some women’s networking groups which has minor results. My classes are probably the most effective, other than word of mouth❤️❤️

Unlike spa’s, I do not take credit cards in advance, so if people miss an appointment, we reschedule. It happens rarely, sometimes someone just forgets! Usually my client phones if they have to reschedule.  (more) Unlike spa’s, I do not take credit cards in advance, so if people miss an appointment, we reschedule. Have your 30 second “elevator” speech ready to go smoothly and with excitement every time someone asks you in conversation “What do you do?” Interact, in some volunteerism that you live. Could be soup kitchen, could be library, could be activism organizations, local events and introduce yourself. Give a talk at the library about “what’s the deal with Botox and fillers? “ address the concerns people may have about those procedures and highlight the benefits with photos! Have an intro event at the spa or at the plastic surgeon s office and ask them to send invite to their clients! Ask a woman’s club if you can be a speaker. Make a Powerpoint with photos etc.  and most important, envision your ideal future and who you want to attract! Be specific! Inhale some of my essential oils at the same time because “essential oils are the greatest magnifier of human intention” (d.penoel) You know the drill- 1st envision-then give gratitude for its already being done!!

I don’t have employees, I have team members! Communicating, spending time together either in person or Skype calls or conference calls. A big part of my work is educating about the toxic ingredients in personal care products, home health care products and food! I take people on shopping trips in the health food stores to read labels to realize that what they are putting inside their mouth in the name of toothpaste and mouthwash, for example, has warnings "if ingested contact poison control". and that's children's toothpaste too!! imagine if toxic products are in health food stores, what the "norm" is for products bought in drugstores and supermarkets! the excuse is that the toxic products are so much cheaper. Wrong! The poor liver becomes overburdened with trying to rid the body of excess toxins, but it's a losing battle, and the list of "symptoms of disease" increase. When the doctor bills come in, you wish you had paid the surcharge for a clean product! Anything you put on your skin, in your mouth, inhale, goes right into your bloodstream. That includes the water that we bathe in! (Shower filters that eliminate chlorine are how I fill my bathtub) That's just the health benefits of eliminating toxins and chemicals. The other benefit for going clean and green is to make the choice NOT to give our money to the corporations that produce these products, and that includes food! Don't get me started! I do workshops on this topic! haha Warmly, Joan Apter apteraromatherapy.com
