I am focused on empowering individuals to achieve their goals and discover their value and beauty from within; whether it's learning new skills, sharing their stories, or simply amplifying their presence. How We Got Started
Hi, I'm Char (Charleen) Ferguson. As the eldest of five, preparing meals for a family of seven built my foundation in leadership and multitasking.
That experience led to catering, writing food columns, and teaching cooking classes. I worked with food brokers and major manufacturers, then helped launch the Art Institute of Dallas Culinary School as a Director of Admissions. My career expanded into beverage services as a National Sales Executive for NUCO2, then pivoted to tech, co-founding Just Call The I.T. Guy with my husband.
Today, I teach seniors technology and safe skillsets while connecting them with trusted resources to age in place. AI opened the door to Empowerment Portrait Artistry. My love of writing inspired me to become a Premium Ghostwriter.
Through it all, one passion remained constant: empowering others. From kitchen tables to corporate boardrooms to creative studios, I help people tell their stories in various ways to thrive.

We have been busier than usual with keeping up the fight against Cybercrime. We have seen an immense increase in calls from small businesses asking for information on what security measures are best. This led us to extend our helpdesk hours for current clients to 24/7, and design an affordable offering for small businesses to utilize a monthly managed protection plan that covers, monitoring, password management, an Anti-virus, and DNS protection. We also added a more robust security audit for our free network assessments. Sad to say, but the criminals are keeping us busy!

We have increased our remote managed client numbers due to COVID. Many employers feel the need to keep office visitors to a minimum and welcome the remote services we offer. We rarely travel onsite unless there is a server down or a hands-on-only repair that is required. Configuring network printers, software updates/installs, adding new users, etc are easily done remotely. We will continue to grow our managed remote services well past COVID as it's beneficial to both clients and how we manage our technicians (that love to work from home).

Cybersecurity begins with employee security awareness training. Most companies do not spend time training their first line of defense, those that work for them. With many employees now working from home it is more important than ever to ensure the safety of your network by implementing rules for the equipment they have taken home to use. We discovered clients that were quarantined with company equipment were allowing others in their household to use them. The amount of PUPS and malware reported on cleanups was alarming. Upon questioning them about the items we found and who else might be using their laptop, we heard reasons like "I use this instead of my home one because I am on it all day and it's easier to use just one". "Brian's computer wouldn't connect to his online class so I let him use my [work] laptop". "It was much faster for my daughter to use my laptop to do her homework on than the one she has here at home" etc. Until we questioned them, not one of them had the slightest inkling that this was a potential risk or that this was something that they should not do. In most cases the business owners were surprised that this was happening and finally realized that what we had been advising them of for over 3 years was perhaps going to be the cause of a potential company breach. I can't say it enough, cybersecurity begins with employee security awareness training.

We often get chuckles about our business name; Just Call the I.T. Guy. The name is catchy, very few forget it, and there really is a story behind it.
I was ending my 12-year position as a national sales rep selling bulk CO2, yes, I was “Bubbles” herself, I was responsible for putting the carbonation or the bubbles in your fountain drinks and beer. It was at the exact time my husband decided he wanted to work for himself. I had learned a lot about I.T., through osmosis, as Jay had been in the field for nearly 10 years and he shared many stories. Being an attentive listener, I had unknowingly learned many valuable tips, tricks and how to resolve most common issues. I made the decision to help him launch the business and gladly volunteered to take on the responsibility of Sales & Marketing. From Bubbles, to VP of S&M, sounded exciting. My first task was to pick a dba and purchase the domain name. I started with the domain as I thought it would be important to have both match. After searching for 8 hours the first day, I began to get frustrated. Every domain name I wanted was already taken; itworks.com, techitout.com, mycomputerworks.com, fixit.com, fixus.com, to name a few. Jay’s real name is James and his family calls him Jimmy, so I thought that jimmythegeek.com was fun, but not $9,888 for-sale fun!
On the second day I gave up after two hours and tearfully went to Jay to admit I might not be too good with the marketing piece. I looked at him, threw my hands up and asked, “what do people say when they want you?” He glanced up casually and said, “they say, just call the I.T.guy!” Ugh, I wasted 2 days and he just mumbled the best name ever, and it was available!

What can you afford?
I guess it would be easier to list what you cannot afford, right? An I.T., guy that never shows up, being hacked by your employees that open every email without thinking, passwords taped to your employees' computers, forgetting to remove permissions when an employee leaves, and the list goes on…. It helps them realize the value of your services and many end up asking for our free I.T assessment, which was the main purpose of the email. It always gets read and it injects a dose of the bitter truth along with subtle humor. This can easily be customized to fit any business.
