How We Got Started

Second generation clergy , first sermon given at age 6, my every inquisitive mind led me to seek truth instead of dogma. If my eternity depended on what I believed then it certainly was worth my time to investigate what I was taught to believe. Love from an inclusive God not a member of an exclusive club.

It is time for adults of the 21st century to leave behind the dreams of a yesteryear, act like adults and deal with the realities of today. Not all dreams come to reality. It is said that a chain is not stronger than it's weakest link. We fail today because we choose to ignore and demean our weakest links. We deny the weakest amongst us and expect those without boots to pull themselves up by bootstraps that are not there. Stop dreaming. Get grounded in the reality of our 21st century. The men who are called our Founding Fathers and wrote the words "ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL" were first of all all MEN and all WHITE men and all SLAVE OWNERS. Our dreams should be well evolved from those day of not so long ago. We should PROGRESS as a people, as humans. And our dream of a future must move beyond dreams of material wealth and materialism and be grounded in a reality of physical health and a loving UNITED people- which at this moment WE ARE NOT........

I often say 'it is not a matter of whether there will be another tornado or not, it is not a question of whether there will be another pandemic or not, it is simply of question of when a where. A smart business owner/ manager is a prepper. Like a good boy scout. Expect the worst, prepare for the worst. Do not rape your own business and delete your operating capital. ALWAYS know your market and ALWAYS have in place several venues to utilize in targeting your market. Never wait to see what others are doing. Be the leader not just another follower. Even when this pandemic is over it is 100% certain that there will be another storm up ahead. Don't wait for the so called experts to warn you. Just plan for it. Insurance only pay once the damage is done. YOU, being the smart manager/ business owner can prevent the losses by never becoming complacent and always staying in forward momentum. BE versatile/ Be fluid. The one constant in life is change. Be part of it. Don't wait for it. Then you will be better positioned to thrive in all circumstances and will be looked to as a true leader in your industry.

But for the few that do not even if they comply it is always done so with a aura of negativism permeating the air. Some may snarl and even verbally object.  Keeping the politics out of the discussion has been very difficult but however that is what we strive for. The health and well being for all and the small sacrifice being asked.   The small but very loud segment that views the wearing of a face mask is intruding on their freedoms..... At a location in Chelsea Al last week a lady was very politely told that to enter she must adorn a face mask. The signage instructing so was very visible on the entrance door. She chose to enter without a mask regardless and was promptly told to either wear the mask or leave. As she existed the door she ripped the signage off the door and slammed her fist against the glass door. Over all this has been our  biggest issue= that of dealing with people who have been convinced that the requirement of wearing mask is violating some constitutional rights of their with some going to the point of trying to use the creation account in Genesis about God breathing the breath of life into man as our attempting to stop that breath of life.........

This week theme has been on the subject of FREEDOM and HAPPINESS, SUCCESS and how we are taught only an illusion of all of that. Money is not the point of life. Accumulating stuff is not the point of life. Janis Joplin sang 'Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.' Sadly our society, out culture has defined QUANTITY as QUALITY. My mother died at age 80 overdrawn at her bank. But she died the richest woman on earth. Because she lived. Not for money and stuff. But for love and experiences. REVENUE was not part of her conversation. Happiness was. Time is the only thing you ever truly own. That time between your birth and your death. Time is the only thing that once you spend it you can never get it back. I have sat with people as they went through their dying experience, without exception NONE of them spoke of their money, their homes, their cars or their bank accounts as they reflected on their lives. They all spoke of love, relationships and experiences. And the most regretted things about life by the vast majority was the regret of having spent so much of their lives focused on money and stuff instead of experiences and relationships. So to sum up what this 'crisis' has brought to me- and I hope many others as well- is the fragility of life and what is truly important about life. Learn to live instead of learning to consume. For you and I both will one day soon die as all do.

(more) The silver lining to this pandemic is that everything I have said that needs to take place now has the best chance to do so. It has provided me with a platform to gain people's attention to what is important in life. And the most important part of life is NOT money. The slowdowns- I do not call it a 'lockdown' because people are still moving quite freely- has in such a short period of time cleaned so much of our atmosphere. We are beginning to see nature in HD quality all around us. Parents are being forced to once again actually parent, spending time with family, being responsible for the education of their children. People are having to take almost total responsibility for their own SPIRITUALITY, being forced free of institutionalized religion- maybe even learning that they can have their own relationship with their GOD outside of a building that sells GOD like a business. The hypocrisy that Jesus spoke so much about is being revealed in the same HD quality that we now see nature. It is horribly sad that it takes such a drastic event to get us to a point where we can realize that materialism, economy is not the path to quality of life, but here we are. It reminds me of how the Israelites complained about how sweet they had it in Egypt when God set them free from enslavement- some actually begging to be sent back into enslavement instead of patiently waiting on their GOD. Priorities- We have been given an opportunity to get our priorities straight. Life is not an economic thing, life should not have a price tag on it. Neither should your loved ones, your family and community. Any loving GOD would have His creation focused mainly on caring for each other and the home he provided to them- this planet that all human life calls home. Money comes and goes but in life we only have it once- once gone it does not come back. If you doubt this visit your local cemetery........ Save a life: Stay home, Protect your family: Stay home, Protect your community: stay home. Don't be like the Israelites, always thinking about what you DO NOT HAVE, focus on what you do have- in life, quality, not quantity. You believe you are going to spend an eternity in an afterlife? If so you now have the opportunity to get adjusted to no movies, no football, no church buildings, no eating out and  NO institutionalized spirituality. Enjoy it.
