Wow. great answers. I'd like to add painting a picture. Listen to their needs, learn about their goals, see if there is a good fit (if not, respect them and don't waste their time). Then take that information, do your homework and come back. Thoughtfully present the solution that allows the buyer to see your product or service as the natural best choice. Paint the picture of the client in the better situation you and your company make possible.

I like a media mix. How that looks depends on who you are trying to reach. It is different if you are looking for local shoppers or offer a specialty product and need to reach a large geography. For targeted local advertising, Local Cable TV advertising is beyond inexpensive. Comcast has amazing...

I like a media mix. How that looks depends on who you are trying to reach. It is different if you are looking for local shoppers or offer a specialty product and need to reach a large geography. For targeted local advertising, Local Cable TV advertising is beyond inexpensive. Comcast has amazing resources. Their data is great to plan your overall media campaign and of course to target our individual TV campaigns.
Radio costs more than TV, but Country music is strong in our market, so we add it when we can afford it. We use some other Radio stations as well. The problem with radio in our area is limited local stations and regional station have too much waste (I don't want to pay for geography that isn't a fit).
Newspaper has a place to reach the demo for some of our events. Again watch the price, geography and waste.
We also use Social Media for marketing and advertising - Facebook boosts and of course fee posts. We do some Instagram and Twitter, but the reach is soo much smaller.
Our organization does dozens of events each year. I appear on a local radio show one a month. We provide PSAs to the radio stations and PR to the newspaper. We're uniquely positioned to get lots of local coverage.
Do you defined the target audience for your product? Who is your best customer? Who do you want more of? College students? Families with multiple phones? Think about what they would like best. A drawing for a Starbucks card is inticing to some demos while a play area for toddlers would be...

If you are in a stand alone building, a strip mall, traditional mall or business district your tactics will need to be different. An open door and the smell of popcorn could be great in a mall or walkable Historic Downtown like ours. If you're in an icolated location, you will need to reach out with calls, postcards, email or social media to share you have an open door and popcorn. I like the sidewalk music, too! Our most sucessful retailers have capitalized on creating ambiance before their customers even step in the door.
