About Us

My business develops and delivers innovative curriculum and educational programs for schools. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, I am developing an education program that is community/neighborhood based with online instructional support. My curriculum embraces cultural differences. It is place-based, inclusive, earth friendly, interdisciplinary, holistic, and relevant to the current needs of our society. The lesson plans include important roles for people of all ages and abilities. With the curriculum, I am developing a mobile indoor/outdoor classroom design which allows for social distancing. The classroom can be completely opened so that UV radiation will kill virus particles, or can be closed during inclement weather.

Develop curriculum that can be done with things in the home, or through a walk in your local park; and that supports language and math literacy; and involves activities that move the body and use the whole brain. Do not create more boring worksheets. Make that curriculum easily available in an affordable subscription service. Then, support parents in following that curriculum. One is education models that keep people safe while keeping their children learning, stimulated and curious. One of the silver linings to the grievous and heartbreaking Corona Virus cloud is that we could start re-imagining our educational system.  In our country, education has become based on a factory model. Competition is king in overcrowded classrooms. The Covid-19 Pandemic shows that overcrowded classrooms in closed indoor settings with too few underpaid teachers is just plain dangerous.   Now we have an opening to do something about it. I’ve imagined a home school, neighborhood or small community based education program with on-line instructional support. It could be launched through community centers that are underpinned by a rigorous Covid-19 testing program. I’d love to form a working group of people to discuss that possibility. If interested contact nancy@earthfriendlyed.com.  The other big business opportunity is farming, market gardening, and brokering locally grown food to customers. It’s a lot of hard work, but there has never been more need for us to produce and sell all (or as much food as possible) within 150 miles of our home. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) businesses, like New Mexico Harvest, who contract with local farmers and home deliver are being overrun with customers to the point that they are not taking new members. The corona virus outbreak offers a unique opportunity to develop local food security and food sovereignty; and support our local small family farms and ranches.
