In 2017 we evaluated our marketing strategy, and realized that approx. 65-70% of our business was mostly return customer or perhaps word of mouth referral in the community. We then looked at what we were paying for in advertisement. We still had a yellow pages ad that my father in law had taken out 30 years ago when he began the business. We had local restaurants with place mat advertising since this is a small community. We then began an evaluation of how effective these methods were. The most revealing question was when my own daughter stated most of the young adults her age 20+ don't even know what the yellow pages were. So we now have a Facebook page, Web site, and several Google ads. The other interesting fact was that we were able recognize an increased response in the 20+ age population as well as the 30-50 age group. We also captured a group from the local college, all without adjusting our operating budget because the cost of all these updates was still less than the original annual cost of the single yellow page ad. Our response is at least 80-90% effective when our secretary asks the client how they heard about us. we captured the other 30% of the market that didn't know we were here. Be careful when using Facebook, some people will use it as a platform for their issues, also be careful when googling or Pinterest cartoons because some of those are copy write proofed and y0u may end up paying for someones intellectual material
