When asking your existing customers for referrals I would consider giving 10% of what you charge the person they referred to you and then make a choice. You can give 5% to the existing customer and 5% to the new customer. The second choice would be to give all 10% to the existing customer and show them how many customers they could refer to pay for their work and start profiting. While you are with the customer for the first time take a notebook along and offer to take the names and phone numbers and offer to call them yourself.
