The best defense is to separate your computers from the guest computers. It really is no different then TimHortons or Macdonalds offering open wifi.  I have been servicing computers since 1992 and have never heard of one instance where someone on a hotel wifi was compromised. Internet cafes same deal.  If a person was going to attempt a hack there are countless opportunities that do not require hiding in the bushes of a air bnb.
