About Us

"We would recommend a branding campaign with Mountain Neighbours for any local business that seeks to grow their business and connect with local shoppers directly in their neighbourhood.

Otter Co-op started a print and digital campaign with Mountain Neighbours seven months ago because we were looking to get local Sumas Mountain families to come and shop at our Food Store.

Since that time, we have seen a lot of new faces come and shop at our Parallel Food Store, with some explicitly mentioning the Mountain Neighbours Magazine by name! We’re pleased to both support a local publication while achieving our brand awareness goals.

As a result, we’re considering other branding campaigns in additional areas to help engage with local shoppers for our other stores."

(more) The best way to begin is by establishing your brand within a desired market. That is tough for small businesses because there are not many avenues available for effective branding which includes the frequency and consistency over 12-36 months which are necessary to create top-of-mind awareness leading to conversions. A $250,000 study by L.E.K. Consulting (Fall 2017) concluded that community magazines are the most desired form of targeted media in specific geographic areas with 30% of respondents ranking them as number one. Social media came in second at 15%. Direct mail, radio and email lists came in at 7%. Online search and banner ads at 4%. Billboards/bus benches at 1%.  Social media is good at 15% of respondents ranking it first. Community magazines are very good at 30% ranking them first. The publication I represent (which did not conduct the study) came in at 50%! New studies show a combination of print and digital is optimum.
