Depends where the clog is. If it is in the trap in a sink, take the trap apart. If it is the toilet trap a plunger (used the right way) will get it. I highly discourage using liquid chemicals to open drains. Despite what the labels say, they are not good for your pipes. If it is in the line somewhere, a hand snake or mechanical snake is your best bet. Worst case get a plumber with a camera snake to see what the blockage is. I have also use a water jet to unclog...
