About Us

VeroLuce Photography by Veronica L. yankowski is an internationally award winning studio specializing in weddings and events, portraits, headshots, boudoir and marketing rebranding sessions.

Veronica began her career in 1996 after earning her degree in journalism (cum laude) from Rider University. She worked part-time for The Trentonian for two years before freelancing for some of the area’s top news outlets, such as The Star Ledger, The New York Times, and The Associated Press. In 2001, she was a staff photographer for two years at Greater Media Newspapers. During that time, she received 19 awards for her images; the most ever won by a staff photographer with the organization. Her most heralded work was her collection of photographs taken on 9/11 and at Ground Zero shortly after the attack. Her photos have been exhibited across New Jersey ever since, and are registered with the 9/11 National Memorial and Museum. They were also featured in her first book, Dialogue 3, published in 2002.

After the birth of her daughter in 2005, Veronica shifted gears and left the news world to begin her portraiture business. It wasn’t until 2012 that she branded her company VeroLuce Photography; “veroluce” is Italian for “truth and light.” Known for her soulful portraits, she expanded her business by creating Veroluce Boudoir in 2013. That same year, reality TV star Dina Manzo of “Real Housewives of New Jersey” posed for a boudoir session, establishing Veronica as an expert in photographing women and helping them feel empowered.

Veronica believes in the importance of confidence in women, and has been speaking to women’s groups about business branding and self-confidence on the other side of the camera for the past four years. Known for her ability to make her clients feel comfortable and natural, she offers tips on how to portray that in photographs.

She continues to win accolades in 2017, including the Garden State Gala Award for “Best Event Photographer” for the 4th year in a row, she was just ranked as one of the Top 30 Best Wedding Photographers in the World by WedAward, and a ranking from Two Bright Lights Editors’ Choice in the top five percent of international published photographers. According to Two Bright Lights, Veronica is the most published photographer in New Jersey.

How We Got Started

I picked up a camera when I was 11 years old. It was a manual canon my father used in the VietNam War. I learned how to use it by taking snaps around the house. Once I got to high school i took a photography course and knew this was my career path. Well, that's the story I tell people anyway. And it's true. However I was first fascinated with photography because of Greg Brady. Yup! On an episode of The Brady Bunch Greg captures a football play that changed a call. I thought that was the coolest thing ever. Well that and working in a real darkroom. Who knew years later I would get to work in a darkroom and photograph professional sports? That is where the initial spark came from. The rest is history!

Email marketing is huge as well.  Lastly, networking will always be your best opportunity because you’re building relationships and people prefer to work with who they like and trust.  Be sure to look I to the organizations in your area and give some a try to see what the best fit is.  Good luck!

That’s being said, I teach in my off season so I can make some additional income there and I also incorporated different events into my business plan that Arent as season dependent like weddings are. So I do a ton of bar/bat mitzvahs andnthey happen all year round so I can fill in my slow season with them. Networking is important but having that plan b you can do in your off season is key. Good luck

Most of us who shoot weddings offer it with our packages as it's an integral part of bonding with our clients. What you put out there and show is what people will want and expect. So you need to promote and showcase the types of images you want to book more of. In some cases when building a new genre for our portfolio you can offer a session at a reduced rate to entice folks to book with you or have a model call for free sessions. That's up to you. Good luck

You have to look at this as a business and not just as a photographer. Meaning I would suggest taking some courses on how to run a business. When I started my business 22 years ago unfortunately I was an artist and didn't have those business skills. I didn't know about marketing and branding, networking, and what the difference between an LLC and incorporated is. I literally learned as I went and it's not very easy at all. Taking the pictures is only a small part of what we do as entrepreneurs. Networking is a skill in itself and is a must. Learning how to market and brand and where to advertise is another aspect that's important as well. Also learning how to find your niche And set yourself apart from your competition i.e. what makes you different than them? Once you begin taking yourself serisouky as a business owner, others will, too. And your friends will want to support you and pay you and not always expect you to work for free. I mentor photographers starting their career and help with these exact things. I certainly don't mind chatting with youand picking your brain if you'd like. I'd be happy to.
