How We Got Started

I have always been an entrepreneur, even when I worked for someone else. I own and operate small businesses under the blanket company, Aslan Enterprizes. Whether working for someone else or myself, I have always been involved in some aspect of coaching, teaching, speaking, or training.

When the opportunity to become a Founding Member of The John Maxwell Team presented itself, I jumped at it. Not only have I been trained, mentored, and coached by John Maxwell and his team, the process continues on. I am always learning and growing. The process never stops! Now I want to take what John has taught me and share it with you.

(more) I am using the pro version.  It helps to have a fast processor, a good high speed internet connection, and preferably someone who knows Zoom very well who can run it for you from behind the scenes  so you can focus on your presentation.  Use a good quality mic.  Place your camera where you can look directly into it.  If you need notes, place them at the same level as your camera, maybe on either side of your monitor/camera, or just behind the monitor/camera perhaps on the wall/white board/or where ever so you can read them without having to look away from the camera.  Use plenty of indirect lighting, especially if you are using the green screen function.  In the version that I am using, you can choose to have a "virtual" background of any picture you would like.  I use this function because I don't currently have a green screen set up in my office.  I use a background to give a more professional look.  If you are using the free version, be aware that your meeting time is limited to 40 minutes and less than 100 people.  The pro version doesn't have these limitations.  Always practice before hand with some friends or family who don't mind being test subjects.  You want to make sure that you are very familiar with Zoom and how it works, especially if you don't have an assistant and are having to run it yourself.  Not too long before your presentation check to see that everything is working OK - another "dry" run.  Bob Cummings has some more great suggestions as do some others.  The latest version of Zoom has dealt with most of the security issues.  So, make sure that is the version you are using.  Hop this long answer helps.... :)

(more) You have already received some very good answers.  I echo them.  One thing you should do is determine why you want to add a related business.  In other words, what is your WHY?  Next, how do they relate?  Is one filling a void that the other one doesn't meet?  Do they complement one another or would they compete.  Is there a market/niche for the new business and if so what/where?  A lot depends upon what the businesses are.  Once you have answered these questions, and a few more, you would be ready to start if the answers were positive/favorable towards the additional business.  Then you should lay out a written business plan.  There are two very important elements that should not be left out.  In fact they should be done first.  One is a vision statement and the other is a mission statement - they are not the same.  They are different and they should both be WRITTEN.  I would create a binder that includes your vision statement, your mission statement, and your business plan - something that you can hand to anyone and they can read it.  FIY - if you go to a lending institution to borrow money, one of the first things they will want to see is this binder.  Do this regardless of how many employees you have or don't have.  If you do have employees, I would also create an operations manual that has in writing how you do things.  Again another reference item for employees so there is no misunderstanding how the business is operated.  These are just the beginning basics which I hope you did for your other business.
