Coco Raynes Associates, Inc. is a multidisciplinary design firm with a broad background in environmental graphics and industrial design. Our services range from master plans, programming, concept and detailed design, to supervision of manufacturing and implementation.
The firms philosophy to work beyond minimum requirements - with regard to quality, aesthetics, and expectations - has resulted in innovative designs and repeat clients. Since 1969, the WBE certified firm has produced large and diversified exhibits, wayfinding and signage programs for public spaces, including transportation facilities, museum and visitor centers, universities, hospitals, restaurants, cities and parks.
The firm is a leader in the field of Environmental Graphics and has received worldwide recognition for its contribution to Universal Design. Our design excellence has been acknowledged with many prestigious awards, including the Gold Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) in 1994, Honor Awards from the Society of Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD) in 1994 and 2002, the CLIO Award in 2003, the Women in Design Award of Excellence from the Boston Society of Architects in 2006, The Boston Society of Architects Design Award in 2011, and two Second Place Awards from International Design 2012.
The firm’s organizational skills are best illustrated by large scale projects. Among them are the sign and information system for over 2 million square feet of medical and teaching facilities at the University of Wisconsin Clinical Science Center in Madison, Wisconsin; and multiple projects for the Black and Decker World Headquarters in Towson, Maryland, including a comprehensive sign system for the multi-building complex with parking structures, connecting highways and roads.
International projects include the Dragon Valley Resort Hotel in Korea; the Bosphorus Swissôtel in Istanbul; the 3-kilometer-long Greenbelt Parking Garage in Kuwait; the 500-acre campus and twenty six buildings for the Aga Khan University Faculty of Arts and Sciences in Pakistan; the Maloka Science and Technology Museum in Bogotá, Colombia; and the National Museum of Colombia.
In addition to our main body of work in environmental graphic design, we are experts in Accessibility, and have served as consultants to the U.S. Access Board. We have developed Universal Design solutions and products to address the information needs of blind travelers. Among these are the patented Raynes Rail, a Braille and Audio Handrail System with multilingual capabilities, and a design vocabulary for tactile maps. Our most noted projects are a multilingual wayfinding system for Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, as well as the visual, tactile and audio itineraries in the French Musées des Beaux Arts in the cities of Calais, Arras, Valenciennes and Douai.
We have recently completed the signage and wayfinding master plan at Battery Park City, a six-million-square-foot area of parks and neighborhoods in Manhattan, NY, with an emphasis on its innovative public art program and parks. Other comprehensive programs include the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in New York, the Modern Theatre at Suffolk University, the Boston W Hotel, and NewBridge on the Charles, a 162-acre community with 20 residential and health care buildings in Dedham, MA.
