As a portrait and event photographer, I have put my business and marketing on hold for a while.  I am using the opportunity to plan for future marketing and projects.  I am lucky to be a sole proprietor working from home, so I have relatively modest business overhead. Referrals go both ways!  Only refer friends to businesses you have personally been happy with and don't refer businesses to friends  who will not value them.  I am a photographer and not everyone values my services-some are just looking for cheap.   (more) Referrals go both ways!  Only refer friends to businesses you have personally been happy with and don't refer businesses to friends  who will not value them.  I am a photographer and not everyone values my services-some are just looking for cheap.

Don't even think of using it in a marketing setting!

Personal recommendation is the best lead. Craig's list is probably the worst. You get what you pay for. (more) Personal recommendation is the best lead. Craig's list is probably the worst. You get what you pay for.

It depends what business you are in and how much you want to spend. As a photographer, photo ornaments with the client's pictures make a great small gift.
