For anyone who provides a service, is advertising with Google Adwords a part of your marketing mix?

I have used AdWords for 2 years. Tried setting budget at different levels . It is now set at $50.00 per month which basically just helps with Seo. Higher budget just took more money out of my pocket with very little ROI . YP is a complete ripoff. Referral is 90% plus of my business . In my market I get best returns on investing in building relationships and reputation .
