I also agree with what others have said about the importance of referrals. What are your customers saying about your business? Take a look at your Facebook and Google reviews. People will go out of their way to praise your business with raving reviews IF you and your team provide "over the top" and excellent service. But it's a sure bet that disgruntled or very unhappy customers will go way, way, way, out of their way to leave a negative review if they are disappointed in your service or product. It's fact of life these days. Consequently, many business owners are very frustrated that negative social reviews seem to persist, and lament that many of their happy customers just don't take the time to navigate and find their company's Google or FB profile to leave a positive review. It's frustrating, I know. We had a client with a 9 stores in 9 different markets who struggled with the same issue. Since Google especially loves "recency" and "frequency", it became evident to us that this client needed a tool to help their team overcome the persistent negative reviews that seemed to alway be at the top of the feed, even when later positive reviews had been posted. So, the approach became "let's flood the review funnel with so many reviews from our happy customers, that Google and Facebook couldn't possibly continue presenting the occasional negative review on top." We found a simple tool that makes it super quick and easy for any customer to leave a review. This tool even provides a messaging app so customers can interact with store personnel directly in what has become the preferred method of communication for most consumers. Our client has been shocked at how quickly they've increased their Google ratings on average of 1 whole star in 90 days. Yes, referrals are crucial to business success, but if your business is ignoring that fact that most referrals are by way of strangers who leave reviews, you're leaving lots of money on the table that is likely being picked up by your competitor.

Most (business owners and managers) who care essentially already understand the basic building blocks of trust. However, what I find many of my clients struggle with is how to quickly demonstrate trust to future prospects who've never encountered their business. I'm finding that online reviews are difficult to obtain at the rate that Google and Facebook prefer. You'll hear the terms "recency" and "frequency" more and more when examining solutions for online reviews. We've had much success in helping our clients quickly and easily increase both with a simple app solution. (Disclosure - our agency resales this solution and consults) It's not for every business, but for those who routinely gather cell phone numbers and / or emails from their clients, it's an easy tool for staff to remove the friction from encouraging reviews on all the different review sites. It is about making it easy to leave a review since most people who search out your social sites to leave a review are angry. You don't want that. So, a "20 seconds and 2 thumb clicks" approach has proven to work well. I'm not talking about "review gates" since Google hates those and will penalize you if you employ them. Anyway, aside from the obvious strategy of "consistently providing 5 star service", it really pays to make it easy for your customers to leave 5 star reviews. #frictionless
