As an illustrator and story artist I do request a 50% upfront payment and the remaining 50% upon completion of the project. This seems fair and just to both parties. I put a watermark on my final artwork and once the final payment is put through , the final image(s) are sent with the watermark removed. I have found this to be a good method to guarantee your final payment.
