How We Got Started

Mr. Clokey formed a business at the age of 18 in Massillon, Ohio with the help of his father that included preliminary residential design and consulting. Local companies immediately sought out his services to help establish CAD networks and in-house instruction programs. After attending college in Cincinnati, Mr. Clokey relocated to Columbus, The following year he became the youngest faculty member in the history of Columbus State Community College, where he taught Architectural Cad for several years. While spending over 20 years in Minnesota with residential design as the primary focus of his design practice, Mr. Clokey also served as a CAD Visualization consultant on commercial projects with Best Buy, Target, The Duluth Children’s Museum, College of St. Scholastica, and the Bismarck, North Dakota International Airport. In 2016, Mr. Clokey and his family returned to Ohio and currently resides just outside Youngstown.

I have proudly been a residential designer for well over 30 years, and take great pride in each home that I do. While not as involved in Alignable this past year as I would have liked to have been, I have a deeper sense of appreciation and admiration for those deeply involved, even more so for those winners. I am always inspired by the testimonials and comments that point to the hard work and dedication that each brings to the table. Those statements serve as a catalyst and template for the path in which I follow and lead our companies There were not many in the running in my local community, and I did not get the volume of votes that many of you did. But know this, it is an honor that we are so blessed to be able to share with all of you. It is an honor that we will PROUDLY carry with us each day forward.

While we all agree that the kitchen serves a critical role in the daily function of a home, it also perhaps has the most variables. There is indeed a balance between quality, price, and service. The same kitchen that is 14' x 20' can cost $5,000 to $30,000. Appliances for that same kitchen can cost $2,000 from a big box store to $20,000 from a high-end kitchen studio. I think people are perhaps most concerned with the cabinets because it is the one element that offers truly unlimited options and input from the customer. Appliance choices and such have limits, but I have found that the "typical" client will tend to spend and expect more with cabinets and the items they have more options and input

HOWEVER, design and major renovations historically slow down during a presidential election year, due to concerns over the overall economy and interest rates. In some cases, COVID-19 has all but eliminated large scale design work. I do however see a renewed interest in home improvements and additions. People are now realizing that home now serves also as a school, work, and a place to relax. Why not make the space as comfortable and functional as possible?
