(more) An answer to an open ended question like this really depends on who and what the expected end result is. Email marketing really is an art form that uses technology.  Mass emails are like a broken clock which is right twice a day. If you send enough you might get lucky. Or, you might get pegged as a spammer which brings new headaches and get you banned from the services and email accounts you are using. If you are a small business you are wasting your time trying to act like a big company with a big marketing budget. You just can't afford to advertise that much. What you can and should do is define the micro-niche that you specialize in, define the ideal prospect for that niche, target only that ideal prospect group, and only present them with that one idea to reel them in. You only need to generate profit, not build brand recognition and all the other things that do not have a call to action that specifically ends in you getting a sale. Once you have had some success and money, you can go chase another niche and do it the same way.  You will always have more success with a smaller target list of people with a very specific need. In addition, the latest research suggests that you will need between 8 and 18 touches with clients to move the needle if they don;t already know you. So, have your email software set to automate a drip campaign to accommodate that and also be set to respond to trigger events in the process. This approach is simply using best practices and it does not matter the size of company. Most companies both large and small do not do this, and are simply wasting money on an ineffective strategy, which by definition should be a well thought out, smart one.

For marketing there are "intelligent" systems, but you have to create the steps (decision tree) that become the automation. For more complex business decision tasks there are sophisticated systems available , but they are expensive and limited to specific outcomes. the most useful automation scenarios are the ones where you can take a mundane task and have the machines do it for you, freeing up the humans to do the creative thinking work machines cannot do.

Offer to help them in their business before you ask for them to buy or talk to you about your services. After you are connected, you can then try to have a virtual cup of coffee to talk about how you might help each other. I would reach out 50 people a day and follow up with whoever connects with you. There are some software tools to automate this process and companies that offer LinkedIn marketing as a "done for you" service will charge $1,000 or more per month. There is no shortage of info on this topic online.
