Great question and certainly subject Dan. I believe a high quality design is predicated on effective organization and communication between the Architect and their sub-consultants/design team. Ensuring all of the disciplines "connect" when it's time to construct can ameliorate headaches and represent the best value for the Owner as it mitigates the risk of design-build headaches, expensive substitutions and RFI's. Admittedly, this answer ignores the fundamental truth which sounds like a cliche but remains axiomatic: The Architect has to have a great vision!
