That is a tough question. I have been in the printing industry for 35 years and have seen changes come and go...then come back again. Right now, in Denver, with my Real Estate / REALTORS it is about a 75% to 25% of those who are using new, clear, professional headshots. The other 25% are using something 20 years old or something taken with their cell phone. I think it is how you want to be seen and how you want to portray yourself. My honest opinion, if you can't take a good, clear, high resolution headshot, don't use one, especially one that is 20 years old and doesn't look like you.
Just my two cents as a designer.
