Changing Payment Terms?

Since you own an art gallery, there can be peaks and valleys as to when you sell your works of art, therefore incoming cash flow can be hard to predict, forecast, or manage. If you are going to ask your customers to pay for their purchases, you can soften the blow by offering an incentive for them to pay upfront. If your current terms are net 60 days, you can structure it as 2% COD, 1 % 10 days and net 30 days, for example. Another way to improve your incoming cash flow is to require a larger deposit at the point of sale. If you used to take a 10 percent deposit, change it to 25 percent, and if you used to ask for a 25 percent deposit, you can change that to 50 percent. Finally, you may want to consider accepting credit cards as a form of payment to further improve your incoming cash flows. If your business has a good reputation and if your customers are generally warm to you, they should go along with it.
