Sophie’s Companions For Veterans foundation

About Us

Sophie Kerrigan for the love of animals foundation was started after the death of our daughter Sophie in 2012. The foundation has been created to raise the funds needed to help abused and neglected animals that are in shelters and sanctuaries within our community and outskirts. We do this because when Sophie died, She left three rescues behind and was a huge animal activist. In 2016 after Sophie’s mother and board of directors raised enough money at a gala to pay for several service dogs for disabled veterans, the VA contacted her and requested she start a program for their disabled veterans in need of a service or companion dog. That’s when Janet Carpenter (Sophies mom) created the new philanthropic addition to the foundation that is called “Sophie’s Companions for Veterans”.
We have assisted at least over 1000 animals with surgeries, medication, food and better living in the shelter system and over 20 veterans with a rescue dog that was trained as a companion or a service dog to help the veterans disability so they Will both lead a more content life . We are always looking for “COMPANY SUPPORT”in the training, boarding, vetting, and many other necessities while our rescues are in training.

How We Got Started

Sophie’s foundation was created after the death of a beautiful young animal activist. Her mother wanted to continue Sophie‘s dream of helping animals in need. Several years later another philanthropic journey started within the foundation where we pull dogs before their euthanized or shelters and have them trained as a companion or a service dog to help the veteran with disabilities that affect their life every day.
