As I traveled around the world I noticed that most do not own nice homes, drive nice cars, let alone have toys like side by side's, boats, etc. so the culture is completely different. The norm is expecting to start out in an apartment, use mass transit, and hopefully work up to a town home or home. You either excel and qualify for higher education or you learn a trade, they do not have $1.3 trillion in student loans.The exception to this is the middle east where the oil money is shared with the citizens so they can afford a college education, the purchase of homes and multiple cars, etc.. But in all countries I visited, they do not have the individual debt extended like we do here in this country. Many of the countries like South America, Africa, Indonesia, have poverty levels that lack the benefits of charity our homeless have offered to them. I have spent 35 years in the payment industry. Not one of the executives at Visa or MasterCard owed a dime on their cards. They know how to calculate an Internal Rate of Return and the true cost of that credit. In short, America is the leader in extending debt to their citizens and the banks and Federal Reserve make billions each year by allowing us immediate gratification because we cannot see the cost of buying it now verses saving up to pay for it with cash later.
