About Us

Red Woof Inn Doggie Daycare is a locally owned and operated facility located in Central North River, Nova Scotia. We pride ourselves on our commitment to outstanding service. When your dog comes to Red Woof Inn, he or she will be integrated into a supervised play group that best suits their personality. We follow the ‘play all day’ method where your dog will interact with other dogs. This is done carefully and at a pace within each dog’s comfort level so please let us know if your pet has any social issues that need to be addressed.

All dogs coming into our care are required to come to the facility for a free meet and greet. This gives us the opportunity to see how you dog interacts with others, as well a chance for you to see how things are done here. It also gives us  time to review the  Application Form that we use. The meet and greet can be set up pretty much any afternoon with at least two days notice. Please call us for an appointment between 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Our number is 902-957-6997

(more) We aligned ourselves with a reputable local animal rescue organization as a foster care giver. So many rescue dogs are not well socialized so we work with them to gain confidence around other dogs. We spend a lot of time after hours with our own dogs on walks and routinely bring them into our home. The big pay off is that when the dogs are adopted they are are super social, good in a pack environment as well a home environment, so how does that draw business to us you ask? When the dogs are ready to be adopted we assist with the write up, post it on our page as well as on the rescue's page and we also take out a Facebook ad, which normally runs us 22.00 Cdn for 14 days. Our last foster adoption ad had 17,000 views and over 6,000 additional clicks. Now we are a small daycare and boarding facility, the smallest in our county, but we are adding clients pretty much every day because of our involvement in the foster program. Another cool outcome is that a lot of the adopters bring the dogs to us after they are adopted, so we still have that contact with "our dogs". A few other things we do that the larger guys just can't logistically is , we have birthday parties when dogs are here on their birthday, complete with pupcakes for everyone. We take a ton of pictures every day, this is a no brainier, people love seeing the dogs!! We just started a memory wall for dogs that were our clients and have passed on. We are also just starting our rescue wall for all the dogs we have fostered. All these thing have raised public interest in what I call the " little daycare that could". This is my per-retirement gig so it's not all about money, but just by being part of the community and giving back some, our client base has increased exponentially in the 2 + years we have been open.

Now that we have just started our 3rd year, we only use ads to help support rescue dogs that we sometimes foster at our business. We have found that the reviews we have received on our Facebook and Google for Business pages, our website, and word of mouth have as far busier than we had ever envisioned at this point. We just recently started using Instagram and are steadily picking up followers there as well.

It is really well received and we track it through our Doggie Dashboard software program, so that when each receipt is issued it tells them what day of 6 they are one. One thing it's really prompted our clients to do is prepay in 6 day blocks because they know on day 7 there is no charge. Other than that our prices are on our Website and Facebook page. We have very high review ratings on Facebook and Google, plus we get a lot of word of mouth recommendations so people don't even tend to ask for any type of discount as they see us as adding value to their dogs daily life.

Having said that it's hard at first so you may want to look at creating a Facebook page, create events and promote the events by boosting the potential viewership through a Facebook ad. One thing, we believed help us really turn the corner is two things. The first is setting up the review part of our Facebook page. This allows people to see us in all our glory, warts and all. The key to reviews is to respond to any comments good or bad and strive to improve. The second that really worked for us and it was completely inadvertent on our part and that is reach out to a good charity of your choice and work with them. It's seen by the community that you are engaged and want to be part of the community. Because we are a boarding and daycare facility, we chose an animal rescue organization and set up a fostering program at our facility. Most rescues rely on home based fosters and this one does as well ,but because we give their dogs the opportunity to be around other dogs it really improves their social skills and makes them much more adoptable. When the dogs are deemed ready we take out a 7 day Facebook ad for their adoption notice. We've had as many as 17.000 views of various dogs up for adoption in one 7 day ad cycle. As I stated this was completely inadvertent as we just wanted to do good in our community, but those views resulted in calls, which became clients and our business grew exponentially this year because of it. To me it doesn't matter what the cause is as long as it's something you believe in and are passionate about. People see that as a plus and it will impact your business in a positive manner. Another idea I considered is looking into Groupon and here where we are located there is an online site called Shopico.ca that gives business the opportunity to do online discount sale promotions.
