"Kathy is an amazing leader and mentor for these young girls getting ready to enter the working world. She not only teaches them great work ethics, but also how to be mindful of others and use manners and etiquette that will get them far in life. What a great organization!"

Owning and producing a Trade Show means total close down of our business since we can't have crowds. I hope the government will consider these types of businesses when making decisions on monetary help.

Our show isn't until the end of July, so while booking may be slower at present, we expect a huge recovery by June!! Many weddings being canceled, so vendors will need to recoup missed weddings.

You never know the impact you can make on the world when you don't even realize it.
Behind the scenes stories are numerous, but unfortunately, sometimes we never know what those stories are. I've been fortunate enough to experience a few.

I own and produce The Charleston Bridal Show. Many clients stay for years and years and some are a one-show client. That can be very disheartening as a small business owner as you always wonder why they didn't make it at the show.
I mean, we bring in hundreds of brides! But sometimes why a person comes into your life is not for the reasons you thought.
Sometimes, it isn't about you or your business at all.
Three times I have been told on various occasions, "Thank you" for allowing me to be a part of your show or for telling me what you thought of my business.
Sometimes it's not about changing our own lives, but the lives of others.
1 - A photographer saw me at an event and literally ran up to me to say he now has the job of his dreams because he participated in The Charleston Bridal Show. Apparently, his booth was next to a person that led him to a job interview that he never dreamed he would get. Thank you, thank you, thank you was all he could keep saying!
2 - Again at an event not related to weddings at all, a young lady who had participated in The Charleston Bridal Show via the caterer she was working for, met someone also working at the show that ultimately became her best friend and had just been her maid of honor in her wedding. She told me that without being at our show, she would have never met her best friend.
3 - A woman that I met at a Farmer's Market selling jewelry approached me at a Networking Event to say she now had a VERY successful online jewelry business that catered to wedding jewelry, because I had encouraged her to get into the wedding business. It changed her life.
Wow! Miracles are everywhere around us. Finding out about some of them is what life is all about.

Well, I'm a hopeless romantic at heart, so it's no surprise I got into the wedding industry. Obviously my passion is a huge part of my job, but I'd like to say this to all of the current and hopeful entrepreneurs out there. There will be days when you feel as though you are spinning your wheels and that vehicle is going nowhere. It's going to happen...and yes, happen over and over again, so don't get discouraged. I've found that on those days it's best to just step away from the work. It may sound counterproductive when you are always looking for new ways to make your business successful, but I've found it is then the Universe (God) steps in and does what He does best...makes things happen. Not only does this break help you clear your mind of the work clutter, it really does show God your willingness to let go and trust that He will make take care of the next steps. When you come back to work, you will find that something has happened. That client you thought would never sign with you, writes you an email and asks for a contract. Or maybe that one is replaced with 2 others. Any number of wonderful things can take place when you take the time to meditate, go have some fun, hit the beach, do a little shopping, play with your kids, etc. You get the idea? No need to feel guilty for having some fun and clearing the air of the Universe. In the words of a famous slogan..."Just Do It!"
Funny. My motives were that I was unhappy in my job and needed something fun to do. The old saying is, "If you love what you do, you won't work a day in your life." So true.

Did I ever think of the failure portion? Not one minute. You do what you have to do to make your clients happy with your services. If your client is happy, then so are you. Treat people the way you want to be treated. There will always be those that have an argumentative spirit. Be kind. Ask what can you do to make them happy? Many are disarmed by that question as they are looking for an argument.
And yes, giving back to the community is part of passing along the blessings of success. Find a charity that speaks to your heart! :)

If there are that many at a Networking event, I say what a great start! Obviously you won't be the only one standing alone. Find that other person or persons and go introduce yourself. Start be letting them know who you are and what you do, then ask about them. People love to talk about themselves when prompted. Can't think of what to say? How about...how did you get started in that type of industry? Are you from here? (Your city) Talk about the weather, your family, your pets. (People love to talk about their pets too!) From there, the conversation should flow. If it doesn't, then say..."It was so nice to meet you. Give them your bsuiness card (bring lots and make sure your email address is on it!! Some people only feel comfortable emailing, not talking.)...and then move on to another person standing alone. Maybe now you feel confident enough to walk up to 2 people standing together? Say, "Hi, hope I'm not interupting, just wanted to say hello and meet some new people tonight. I'm new here. Any suggestions besides this event, on how to make new contacts for business?"
That should get you started. Trust me...NO ONE really likes these events. They can be awkward, but more times than not you'll find yourself driving home feeling pretty good about stepping up!
Btw, I still have a couple of spaces left for the Charleston Bridal Show on the 21st at the Gaillard. I do not have a travel agent booked yet, so you would be the only one.
