(more) This is a question I have been asking myself for years!!  The only thing I can think of is, the GC, in the bidding phase of the job, is  looking for the cheapest quote, so they can land the project. They don't stop to think of "VALUE". A Subcontractor that knows their field of expertise and has competent management and field personnel, in place to make sure the project is carried out in an efficient manner. Doing what they say they will do, being onsite when they say they will be there and not slacking off once they get there. So many times, over the years, I have seen Subcontractors that get on a project and go really hard for a month, take a big draw off the job, pull off and you have to threaten them to get them back, because they know they bid the project too low.  What I know, which isn't a lot, is this, the cheapest quote at bid time, may be the most expensive, at the end of the project, to the GC.  I know from experience, if I have to send a crew out behind another Grading Contractor, it definitely costs the GC more, for us to fix what should've been done correctly, in the beginning, and I catch grief because I am more expensive than the crew he's trying to replace. Please help me figure this one out! I say, always go for Value over a cheap Quote!
