Hands down. I operate a full stack digital marketing company in Chicago and I tell my clients this all the time. We consult them to use digital tools to building their network of business owners that they will engage with in-person. Here are the 3 tips that have the biggest ROI: 1 - join your local chamber of commerce and at least one industry network. Attend/produce events. Use these events to get a pulse on the needs of local businesses and how you can help them solve problems (either through referrals or directly servicing them).  2 - join 1 to 3 local business groups on LinkedIn and/or Facebook. Connect and showcase your business without advertising. Engage in meaningful conversation and connect with the business owners in their. Also ask questions, take advice, and show them how you have used this advice. 3 - collect cards, flyers, and promotional items and send a follow up email to the business representative that you met. Ask to add them for a follow up call or if you have one, ask them to sign up for your newsletter and share it with a business owner that they know.  This will grow your database of professional leads quickly, in 14 months I gathered a little under 2500 leads that have either become customers or referred my company.  This is just one tactic broken into 3 steps, but if you try it and are genuinely interested in building long relationships with other business owners then you will ROI quickly. The last client that did this joined 10 groups on LinkedIn and attended 1 event from each group every month (live or webinar) they started generating sales from referrals within the first month but kept going for the entire year. They closed more business from their online networking than from ads.

(more) Your website is your store front, social media is more like a pop-up shop, or promotional outlet. A business should have some sort of social media presence in today's market and moving forward of course, and they should be engaged, connect, and build relationships with their target audience on social media. And some businesses/business models have to be more engaged and should do more than others. Here is my big concern about this way of thinking. You, the business owner, does not control or even own the platform you are investing time and energy into. I remember businesses putting a lot of time and effort into platforms like MySpace, Vine, and Blogger. Both MySpace and Blogger still exist but the direction, growth, and profitability based on the target users/advertisers has changed drastically of the years. And Vine is gone all together. Businesses that have invested more in their website and email consumer base typically see more consistent ROI that last longer than that of businesses that rely 100% on social. And this for all aspects of business development and marketing from a digital standpoint. The need for a website is not in question, at this point is what is the purpose and goal of the website. You own the data from traffic, subscribers, and can even leverage for advertising. Here is an interesting article from Score.org about this same subject, "when asked what would most improve their businesses in 2017, 32 percent of small business owners in the Capitol One survey cited “increasing advertising and marketing.” But just 14 percent said “creating a website.” These days, however, a website should be the basis of your advertising and marketing efforts. Without one, you can’t hope to compete effectively." Score.org Business owners know they need to have an online presence which they own, the issue is they see owning a website as just another time-consuming task. This is why I created some of the products of my firm. If you maintain a well-designed, search optimized, easy to navigate and professional website then customers will find you. Your website should be a profitable price of digital real estate.  Business owners that don't take the time to invest in their own website and use social instead truly don't get how their data is the most profitable aspect of any business. We talk about this a lot in my business groups. Reach out and we can chat more - Ehren Muhammad, Founder, EMPro, Ltd

The importance of using instrumental music in advertising depends entirely on the goal of the ads. For instance if the ad is meant to resonant a specific feeling with the viewer based on the music used, and they would take the desired action that we as advertisers want then yes the music would play a huge role in the ad. I have never used instrumental audio in an ad. They always had a vocal portion of some sort.

Even in this far more global friendly marketplace. There is a significant upside for small businesses to focus more on getting the most out its customers in close proximity. Its not sexy or the hot new trend, but businesses typically loose a lot of money when implementing a program/strategy based strictly on following trends. Social is moving toward focusing on local ads, so is SEO and direct marketing is fantastically more effective when focusing efforts on a manageable targeted region.

(more) Orlando - there isn't a one answer fits all businesses with this question. It all depends on your business/organization and goals. Here are a few methods to look into that have for businesses I have helped in the past:1 - start a referral program past customers to recommend your offerings to their network. People buy from those they trust. Share rewards for every successful sign up from a customer reffing a new client.2 - the referral program can be strengthened and initially communicated through networking mixers. I did this for a company in New York. The mixers were a great way for current clients and members to connect on topics and themes that mattered to them. They'd bring a guest or two to help bring in new clients.3 - finally are you using social correctly? What I mean is a social can be utilized as a tool differently for different types of businesses and organizations. There are various opportunities such as live streaming event or showcasing your behind the scenes before an event to help generate engagement interest from your audience not to mention every student has their own audience so in turn everytime you post the students audience will grow to become the school's overall audience. I did this a few years back for a local venue here in Chicago on the northwest side where were utilized every artist that performed there audience to become the audience of the venue. You have lots of opportunities as stated before, but it really does depends upon the goals of your campaign. One solid bought out and well-executed campaign to turn everything around where you build a regular client funnel. I hope this helps and please don't hesitate to reach out if you need any assistance.
