Wild Onion Walks is a Chicago based tour company that has as its mission, the idea of "peeling back the layers" of the city and looking beyond the headlines, to see what makes Chicago the great city it is. This is achieved by exploring all aspects of the city's history and connecting it with Chicago today. We explore architecture, culture, commerce, civics, ethnicity, faith and industry, just to name a few things, and look for the interconnectivity between these disparate elements.
I began my tour career in 2004, after almost a decade in the travel industry. I had been laid off due to the events of 9/11, and was looking for a change. I took a summer job with Chicago Trolley and Double Decker. After that first summer, I realized I'd found my passion: the city of Chicago! For most of my 50+ years in Chicago, I have explored every area of the city. I devour books on Chicago. Geoffrey Baer is a rock star to me! I now had an outlet for sharing all that I'd learned. I continued to work with Chicago Trolley, on and off, up till 2016. I even drove a double decker bus for the 2016 World Series Championship parade! But by 2011, I was looking to expand beyond the highlight tour circuit. Thus, Wild Onion Walks was born! Why Wild Onion Walks? Chicago is a transliteration of the Algonqiaun Chi Ca Gou, meaning "place of wild onions"! Now coming into it's 7th year, Wild Onion Walks continues to "peel back the layers" of the city, and showcase what makes Chicago my kind of town!
