Hi Doris!

Without getting technical, as there are companies dedicated to this, there are a few things you can do easily and quickly:

Submit your website to Google (after you've completed your redesign): https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url...

Set up (or claim) your Yelp business page:
http://biz.yelp.com

Set up or claim your business on Google maps:
http://Google.com/MyBusiness

Other accounts you can set up and link to your website are:

Facbook
Twitter
LinkedIn account
Hotfrog
Manta
and of course... Alignable

One of the most important things in all of this is that you ensure that your website is linked to each of these accounts and that all of the contact information is correct.
