Gov't should have immediately froze all rents and mortgages...no loans, no accumulation of debt for housing , just freeze! It makes absolutely no sense to allow that industry to continue charging when the others couldn't or can't! Allowing the money-machine to take the money KNOWING businesses and people weren't allowed to earn money was terrible; why did our "wonderful USA" government leaders allow people and businesses to be kicked out of their shelter and work space during a 'effing lockdown!?
And before you start defending landlords/property owners, freezing payments applies to them too! A total freeze!
As we open , paying rent, lease, mortgage should be the last to start collecting again (at the same rate at shutdown - remember it was a freeze, so no interest or future value of money bologna) , start billing again a few months out , to allow people to gain momentum.
Even though it might seem weird at this point, but with so many people scrapping the bottom to pay rent/mortgage , and the stimulus payments weren't really enough for way too many , our government can implement this idea now -- not having to pay rent is equivalent to receiving (needing) more stimulus'. We need some balance here...we can stop/avoid a lot of stress and sadness.
What are they doing in European countries , or Japan, or , other places other than Canada? I haven't heard ?
Life should be easier than this!
One more question: I assume this loan will not qualify for bankruptcy, correct? Because if can be forgiven that way, there's another whole can of worms to worry about. (or, as some would say, strategic planning).

Let's make this a bit easier, less stressful. IRS, skip using "lenders"/ banks, and go directly to the people (which are businesses, as businesses are people).

After reading the comments, I wonder why people are being forced to use a "lender"/bank?

I'd be a hell-of-a-lot easier for all if the IRS managed these --- They have EVERYONE's tax returns! -- they should be able to sort businesses by size, and be able to calculate max loan AND forgiveness amounts fair easy (by state, by county) via returns. The IRS would take those reports and Either asks biz directly if they want it/need it all or some of funds ... or have the number ready so when/if the biz applies directly to the IRS, its a quick confirmation... papers are signed and funds deposited. Wha-la.
To conclude, I believe applications should go to the US Treasury directly, not via a third-party. KISS.
I think the question should be , How often do you review your General ledger?
Before the month-end, or close, I'd look for misclassified entries - both revenue and expenses, to avoid journal entries, and so P&L is most accurate.

Before the month-end, or close, I'd look for misclassified entries - both revenue and expenses, to avoid journal entries, and so P&L is most accurate.
Tip - always always put something in the memo line! Especially when a 1099 worker is reimbursed for buying something for you...so 1) they don't get taxed for that, and 2) when you see their name under say supplies (because you'll split the entry) the note will remind you which supply they purchased, be specific.
Furthermore, notes are extremely handy when questions arise, during audits, and month/year end.
Demand your bookkeeper to do it, every bill , including reoccurring, like electric bill, (enter date range and watts used).
I reduced my bookkeeping/auditing job from 24 hrs/wk to 8hrs/wk.

I would prefer if they send money to individuals. This helps the independent worker/small business too. But you know, RENT is the biggest expense for businesses and families - so RENT should be 'made' to come down, or covered/deleted somehow....in addition to money to the people. hmmm, "by...
