They sure do. I use several business cards per day on average. If you have all of your contact info on there like a business card was designed for then you should be using them and they should be performing their duty for you.

I've been involved with networking at all different times of the day. I don't think one time is better than the other, for the most part. Just being involved with networking is the important part, no matter the time of day. If you treat it right you will get the most out of it no matter what. Now that being said, depending on the general attendees at your particular group, you may want to adjust the time of the meeting to work around getting the kids to school, picking them up from school, etc. Me personally, I don't have that responsibility any longer so I can do meetings anytime. So basically you just have to find what works best for you and the rest of your group. Or find the group that already fits best for you and your needs.
I personally like the mid day meetings because I usually take the rest of the day off afterwards and go home or go for a ride on my motorcycle and think...

Good old fashioned networking with the right people who want to help you, good customer service (make friends with all of your clients), and do what you say you're going to do. Don't promise more than you can deliver. Word of mouth really is still the best form of advertising and the cheapest too! Sure, sometimes you may get a negative word of mouth but that just gives you all the more reason to do better next time, and fix your flaws. It keeps you on your toes. If you do get a bad review make sure to reply to it in an understanding and professional manner. And fix the problem no matter the cost! That speaks volumes and will a lot of times win you back that customer and more! I've been in business for 13+ years and 99% of our business is repeat orders and word of mouth.
