About Us

A solo practice security management consultant who helps organizations implement & manage workplace security strategy with an emphasis on workplace violence prevention. www.nwaterassociates.com

How We Got Started

My business started because September 11, 2001 drew attention to workplace security and the threat of workplace violence. I had been retired as a Postal Inspector for about 10 months when the call came in. As a result, the United States Postal Service's Long Island District offered me a consulting contract designed to help them assess and evaluate workplace security risks, threats and challenges at their 125 postal stations, processing centers and vehicle maintenance facilities. They gave me 12 months to complete the project, l completed it in 11 months. It was an experience of a life time. I applied all the knowledge and expertise acquired from over 26 years as a Postal Inspector. It turned out to be a memorably rewarding project for many reasons. It was certainly the opportunity where I developed my own consulting methodology to workplace violence prevention. Here I am 18 years later and still going strong. Today, my ideal Clients are my business partners and my friends.

We feel that Thanksgiving is a family tradition in our home but, do understand the nature of Covid-19 and it’s serious threat. As a precautionary measure we have all been tested and continue to practice risk mitigation practices. We recognize that having the test done must take place at least 4/5 days before Thanksgiving to give the virus time to either manifest or for the assurance we are not infected. On Thanksgiving we will dine in our home restaurant called “the gorage”. There we will sit with ample spacing & wear masks when moving about. These practices will not spoil our Thanksgiving while allowing us to be safe.

Deciding to take on more work outside of my core business requirements is a discussion, I have up front as it relates to scope of work. But to the question, it’s my policy not to take on any work that conflicts with my core principles because it only muddies the business relationship down range.

Although this is not an ongoing problem in my case, it is not unusual for an occasional payment that get overlooked. To avoid this issue, we set up and clarify mutual expectations up front. In my case my Clients typically delegate the responsibility of paying my invoice so when they receive my follow up payment inquiry the invoice gets paid. I had one major dispute over an ongoing monthly retainer justification raised by the incoming CEO of a small size firm. After withholding 2 monthly payments and later understanding the scope of my services he agreed to pay me within 30 days. By setting expectations there’s a mutual stake in promoting a healthy business relationship. But, to  avoid late payments, I’ve followed the Tips outlined in the link below. I would like to get your feedback. https://www.forbes.com/sites/allbusiness/2016/0...

Once the prospect is qualified, agreements and commitments are agreed upon through the relationship that establishes the prospect's conditions of satisfaction. When there is a relationship the prospect takes the conversation to the closing, you'll feel it. The idea is for the prospect to close themselves. The rush to close sabotages the sale without the relationship. Key is the prospect's conditions of satisfaction developed through an ongoing conversation. Closing starts at the beginning following the qualification. Your thoughts?
