California is the only state that is imposing fines for those persons that do not have health insurance for 2020.  You do not want to get a short term policy or any thing that is not considered within the Affordable Care Act Guidelines.  One of the options you might have is Medi-share. It is a... (more) California is the only state that is imposing fines for those persons that do not have health insurance for 2020.  You do not want to get a short term policy or any thing that is not considered within the Affordable Care Act Guidelines.  One of the options you might have is Medi-share. It is a Christian based ministry that is considered to be a viable alternative to the ACA.  You will not be fined if you have Medi-Share.   There are other cost sharing programs out there, but you want to do your homework to make sure they are approved by the ACA.   If in doubt call the Department of Insurance if you are considering any of those plans other than Medi-Share.
