Today in the transportation industry it's very difficult because of a cancer called Uber. Used to be people put quality over price but these days most people will drop you over $5.
Give small discounts only if they schedule WAY in advance.

We never feel accomplished actually, there is always more work to be done, much more to learn, more people to meet, more functions to attend, more marketing so on.
We do however feel a sense of satisfaction when we complete a task that we've set out to complete, or when we've helped someone through their wedding or any number of other events we've completed successfully, even simple things like trips to and from airports or seaports.
To me, if someone feels accomplished that means they think they are done, they no longer have to try, they become complacent. We are ALWAYS forming strategies, in fact, at our main office we have both a chess board AND a GO board set up, we will play against each other in the office.
Chess is much more like the American business model, both sides start off with a full set of pieces and attempt to think several steps ahead of the competition. In GO, you start with nothing, and gain as you advance in the game.
Typically, American business thinks about the next quarter, while the Chinese are thinking 100 years from now. When you are thinking 100 years from now you make different decisions than you would if you are thinking about Q3 for example. We like to think of our business model as a hybrid between the two.
The Chinese love it when other countries feel accomplished, because when that happens they are never sleeping while their competitors are.
They say the average person spends 1/3 of their life in bed! What a waste of time. I sleep significantly less than that and when I must sleep I sleep while an informative podcast is playing on the radio, or some form of talk radio. I believe it is actually possible to learn in our sleep.
12,000 over 8 years? Well we go through 1,000 every couple days. Your right, never know when someone will call from seeing one of your cards! We need to start using Vista Print. We go to meetings, expo centers, drop cards off at hotels, travel agencies, colleges, businesses so on. Gets expensive!...

We go to meetings, expo centers, drop cards off at hotels, travel agencies, colleges, businesses so on. Gets expensive! If we aren't driving trips, we are out using old fashioned shoe leather, handing out tons of business cards.
I think business cards will be around well into the future!
If you currently accept credit cards and have been in business for a while, your credit card processing company may give you a loan against future receivables.
Also angel investors could be a solution.

There is a place that specializes in loaning money to transportation providers, it's called Advantage Funding.
Keep investors out of your game if possible. Most are greedy, wanting part of your business not just a repayment. The rest often want way to much of a return. Depending on who you process credit cards with, many offer what's called a merchant loan. They will loan you money against future receivables at a fair rate considering your keeping full control of your business. Most of them do this without any personal credit checks as well

Also, networking groups have a higher ROI but you are in front of a much smaller group. We joined BMI and each meeting there's usually about 20 people at breakfast, we all know each other so referring each other business is something we do.
Buying advertising puts you in front of much larger numbers of people who you aren't having breakfast with each week, so in my opinion it's important to do both

There are several avenues we've found to be successful.
First: Try posting on online job forums such as indeed.com
Second: Advertise your company with trucking schools. Many of them guarantee to find graduates with employment after their students successfully complete the truck driving school
Third: Target specific people or groups with Facebook advertising, it's fairly inexpensive, reaches a lot of people who have expressed an interest in your industry
Fourth: Network with other trucking companies. Ultimately we all need quality employees.
Fith: Go to your local unemployment agency, they are always looking to work with area employers. Some of these agencies from what I've heard even provide credits if you hire through them.
Sixth: Depending on your particular employment requirements you may want to speak with local prisons, corrections departments and the parole office. People make mistakes and "some" of these people have paid their debt to society and became role model employees. Many get discouraged because they feel no one will give them a chance. We've had two people that we've hired this way, non violent people, hired one as a dispatcher the other as a garage technician, they just had a stroke of bad luck in life. Both those guys would make GREAT truck drivers, clean licenses, and highly professional. Just needed a 2nd chance. Not only are they grateful to have found employment, but their families are grateful you've given them a chance too.
These people made some of the most dedicated, hard working people we've ever had. They are good people who went through a bad time in their life, they want and need a 2nd chance. Parole officers are forever searching for employers willing to hire people who are in this situation. Remember not all these people are bad, many of them are good people, they've paid their debt to society and they need employment. Some of these people you'll find to be so thankful, they will become some of the best employees you have.
Obviously we would not hire certain people. That said, use your own discretion but these are some ideas that we've found to work. Try local network groups also such as BMI, also the chamber of commerce. There's a small fee but it's generally worth the effort. With these groups you don't get much out of them unless you participate in their events. Even a local church, some parishioners speak with the ministers, and the church keeps their eye out of employment for the parishioners who are in search of work.
Any more advice we'd love to talk with you
