I took the various clauses to cover what I felt I needed and simplified them to make them easy to understand.  Remember, when you're making up a contract, especially with someone in a different country, that it probably has zero legal clout. The reason you write up a contract is so that both parties are agreed on who is going to do what and how they are going to go about it.  I have only ever had to quote my contract to an author once. He came from Britain and he paid me in Canadian dollars when the contract specifically said $US. When I mentioned it, he paid up immediately. I will modify future contracts so that every single place it mentions an amount, it always says $US.

Given time, every society there ever was invented art of some sort, which pretty much answers the question.

I retired from teaching, a job I loved, and made a decision that any work I do from now on will be chosen because I love it, and I will only choose to work with people and organizations that I like. "Messy" is very subjective. I consider having everything I need close at hand to be efficient, but it certainly doesn't make for a tidy work station. (more) "Messy" is very subjective. Do 99 cent or free promotions. Google "reviewers" and find people (like me) who review books, and query them. Indies Unlimited (a free service for authors) has advice on how to query a reviewer. But Get Reviews. It's essential. (more) Do 99 cent or free promotions. Google "reviewers" and find people (like me) who review books, and query them. Chances are any "old school" publisher "looking for a new author" that finds you is going to charge you a lot of money up front for poor service. They're usually called "vanity press." I have two editing clients who are trying to get out of their contracts right now and finding it difficult. Check out the Indies Unlimited website for more information. If you want to be a writer these days, you self-publish. Once you've got a promotional track record and a hefty backlist, then you might be "picked up."
